Over the past several years, IFMA Atlanta has been working with the FMPipeline Team and SkillsUSA to lay the groundwork to hold the Facilithon – Leadership in Facility Management Competition in Georgia, joining 14 other states that are already participating. We have served at Regional and State Contests and the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Contest that has been held at the GWCC for the past two years and will be again this year.
In 2024, our efforts are paying off. We will be running the Facilithon at the Georgia SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference for the first time February 22-24, 2024.
The SkillsUSA Facilithon competition introduces high school and technical school students and their advisors to careers in Facility Management. This is critical to filling the FM positions that are coming open every day as more buildings go up and facility managers retire.
We need your help in two ways at this State Conference:
- We will be running the Facilithon contest where Competitors complete a multiple-choice quiz, a 25 minute role-play scenario, and a 10 minute emergency challenge. They are judged on understanding of the problem, analysis and approach to the solution, creativity and thinking on their feet. We will need Subject Matter Experts to serve as judges.
- And we plan to have a presence at the Career Expo. Here, any of us who are familiar with Facility Management will have a chance to talk to students and advisors about careers in Facility Management and demonstrate what the Facilithon contest is about.
Go to https://www.skillsusageorgia.org/ to learn more about the conference in General and keep an eye out for more details about our involvement as these become available.
