In 2008, the IFMA Atlanta Community Services Committee hosted the first annual IFMA Atlanta Nonprofit Facility Summit, a one-day educational event open to all nonprofit organizations in the Atlanta area. Through presentations from industry professionals that focus on the concerns of nonprofit facilities, participants gain insight into renovating and maintaining their facilities.
This year, we partnered with Georgia Center for Nonprofits for their 21st Annual Nonprofit Summit. Some 500 attendees gathered on May 21 and 22 for two full days of workshops, speeches, panel discussions, and networking. Through three workshops coordinated by our Community Services Committee, the Facilities track was introduced to the Summit.
IFMA Members Rick Yarbrough ( T.L. Gowin & Co.) and Barbara Miller (AkzoNobel) presented
Efficient Planning and Maintenance: Nonprofit Facility Management 101. Participants were shown how to use a Facility Condition Assessment Worksheet to develop a Facility Maintenance Plan for short-term and long-term goals.
Energy Conservation, presented by Georgia Power, focused on managing energy consumption, crucial to reducing facility operating costs. Modifications were explored for reducing energy costs and earning Georgia Power rebates.
Lifecycle Building Center discussed their program of turning waste into wealth and opportunity through Recycled Building Materials. Excess materials may be salvaged and donated, and surplus is made available, promoting resource efficiency in the built environment for the community at large.
Through the IFMA/GCN partnership, IFMA’s reach to serve the nonprofit community is greatly expanded, and GCN’s already strong education program is enhanced to offer facilities education and support to hundreds of nonprofit organizations. We invite you to bring your experience with facilities to the Community Services Committee and join us in serving the Nonprofit Community. Contact Rick Yarbrough ( T.L.
