During the Fall, the Academic Relations Committee represented by William Broome, Suzanne Haerther, and Ken Stephenson has been busy working with SkillsUSA to introduce High School students to the field of Facility Management through use of a “Demonstration FACILITHON” in the classroom.
This event is made up of a 10 -15-minute explanation about what Facility Management is. We had a short quiz (taken as a group) then the class was broken down into teams who each responded to an FM scenario and a challenge.
We were able to conduct the “Demonstration FACILITHON” at Gainesville High, Marietta High and Union Grove High. In all, we introduced about 150 students to Facility Management and several expressed interest in learning more about the profession and possibly participating in the FACILITHON contest at the SkillsUSA Georgia State Competition in February.
We are off to a good start in this area and look forward to seeing some of these students again in February at the State Leadership and Skills Conference for SkillsUSA Georgia.
